The tourist information center consists of two parts. One is a tower used for cafe, exhibition... people can get a nice view of the city while enjoy a cup of coffee. The other part organizes the paths, plaza, virescence(landscape)extending from the tower to the surrounding. I believe that not only Barcelona but also the building itself can impress tourists very much.

Art Nouveau and Antoni Gaudí

In Spain, Art Nouveau was centered in Barcelona and was known as Modernism, with the architect Antoni Gaudí as the most noteworthy practitioner. Gaudí’s work is admired by architects around the world as being one of the most unique and distinctive architectural styles. His work has greatly influenced the face of Barcelona architecture and we can see his work all over the city. His work was greatly influenced by forms of nature and this is reflected by the use of curved construction stones, twisted iron sculptures, and organic-like forms which are traits of Gaudí’s Barcelona architecture. The combination of original design, interesting shaped stonework, and vibrant colors in Gaudi's work give the viewer a truly breathtaking visual experience.
Gaudí's first works were designed in the style of gothic and traditional Spanish architectural modes, but he soon developed his own distinct sculptural style. Gaudí throughout his life was fascinated by nature. He studied nature's angles and curves and incorporated them into his designs. Instead of relying on geometric shapes, he mimicked the way trees and humans grow and stand upright. The hyperboloids and paraboloids he borrowed from nature were easily reinforced by steel rods and allowed his designs to resemble elements from the environment. He integrated the catenary arch and hyperboloid structures, nature's organic shapes, and the fluidity of water into his architecture. While designing buildings, he observed the forces of gravity and related catenary principles. Gaudí designed many of his structures upside down by hanging various weights on interconnected strings or chains, using gravity to calculate catenaries for a natural curved arch or vault.

Art Nouveau and Antoni Gaudí

Barcelona has been strongly characterized by outstanding architect as well as avant-garde artist Antoni Gaudí who was the most important proponent of Art Nouveau which advocated getting inspiration of creation from nature. Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture and design that peaked in popularity at the beginning of the 20th century and is characterized by highly-stylized, flowing, curvilinear designs often incorporating floral and other plant-inspired motifs. One of the most important characteristics of Art Nouveau is a dynamic, undulating and flowing, curved “whiplash” line of syncopated rhythm. Another feature is the use of hyperbolas and parabolas.
